A little dose of 1960s dark humor for your desk.
This is an original Popsie by Pride Creations - the cult Japanese-made wooden pop-up novelty toys made for Pride Creations, Inc. NYC beginning in 1963. Push the figure down and it POPS back up with a cheeky message.
This one: the Doctor, with rosy cheeks, head mirror and stethoscope, and the slogan "DO WHAT YOUR DOCTOR TELLS YOU" hand-painted around the body.
What makes this one special is the original novelty mailer box. These were designed to be mailed as a greeting card itself - just write the address, add a stamp and post it. Your box still shows "Greetings from:" and "Place 12c Stamp Here - Third Class."
A fantastic piece of mid-century Americana / Canadiana medical humour, perfect for a doctor's office shelf, a nurse gift, or your vintage toy collection.
