Collected from a private studio in France, this solid wood kidney palette is completely transformed by decades of use. One side holds a soft, ghostly patina of color. The other is an explosion of heavy, sculptural impasto - thick mountains of oil paint in faded rose, cobalt, ochre, teal, and ivory, layered and scraped with palette knives and thumbs. The craquelure and texture catch the light like a relief painting.
