A charming little footed bowl from Adderleys, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Circa 1940s.
Hand-painted in that wonderful, loose folk art style — deep forest green sponge leaves with sponged raspberry-red blossoms and a fine black vine. Creamy ivory glaze with lovely speckling and brushstrokes that show the hand of the maker.
These are often called French café au lait bowls, but this one is English ironstone, made for the French market. Perfect as a morning café bowl, sugar bowl, or on a shelf for your cottage kitchen stack.
