The sweetest little WWII era sweetheart brooch. Carved mother of pearl wings with hand-bent wire spelling "Mother" — made for a serviceman to send home to his mother while overseas.
These wing brooches were hugely popular in the early 1940s, part of the patriotic sweetheart jewelry craze. The base is genuine mother of pearl with that beautiful blue-green iridescence, and the wings are carved with feather detail. Simple C-clasp pin on the back, all original.
Delicate, sentimental, and so wearable — looks amazing on a denim jacket, cardigan, or pinned to a tote.
CONDITION:
Very good vintage condition. MOP has lovely luster with light age wear, one tiny faint rust spot on edge as shown. Wire script has darkened patina consistent with age and is secure. Pin mechanism works well and holds tight. Approx. 2.75" wide x 1" tall.
