Victorian poetry in its prettiest form.
An 1860s edition of The Poetical Works of George Herbert and Reginald Heber published by Gall & Inglis, Edinburgh & London. Bound in deep emerald green cloth with elaborate black and gilt stamping, central cream shield onlay featuring a classical urn and floral bouquet.
Contains the devotional verse of George Herbert (1593-1633) - author of The Temple - and the beloved hymns of Reginald Heber, Bishop of Calcutta. Complete with memoirs and steel engravings.
This is the book that was made to sit on a parlour table. The gilt has stayed bright and the pictorial onlay is intact — which is rare for this title.
