A stunning antique mercury glass altar crucifix, France circa 1890-1910.
Crafted from double-walled glass silvered on the interior, this free-standing crucifix features the Christ figure in relief with outstretched arms, haloed by a radiant scalloped sunburst cross. The top retains its original paper INRI label. Hand-painted details include the burnt orange perizonium (loincloth) - a highly collectible colorway.
These were made for home altars and churches and are increasingly hard to find intact. This example has that perfect timeworn silvering that only 100+ years gives it.
Place it on a mantel, altar, or layered into a cabinet of curiosities - it catches the light beautifully.
