This small but powerful landscape depicts a stone arched bridge over a quiet river, rendered in moody, tonal hues of moss green, ochre and slate blue. Wonderfully loose, romantic brushwork with that soft, misty light collectors hunt for.
Presented in its original highly ornate gilt gesso frame - deep profile with rare corn cob outer molding, acanthus and beaded inner borders. Un-touched with exquisite time-worn patina, darkened gilding, and age wear that only comes with 130+ years. The verso retains its original board with faded 19th century handwritten inscription.
