John Burgess & Son was a historic food manufacturer, renowned for its “Essence of Anchovies” and other sauces. Founded in 1760 by John Burgess as an oilman on the Strand in London, the company evolved to become a leading producer of Italian and fish sauces. His son, William Robert Burgess, joined the business in 1800, leading to the name change to John Burgess & Son.
