A exceptional piece of Americana — an original hand-colored Currier & Ives "Noah's Ark" lithograph c.1874-78, housed in its original Adirondack twig frame with applied carved maple leaves.
This iconic image depicts the Ark with a wonderful menagerie boarding two-by-two — elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, zebras, camels and more — rendered in beautiful period hand-coloring. Captioned "NOAH'S ARK" with Genesis verse below.
The frame is the star — a classic late-Victorian Adirondack / tramp art construction in the faux-bamboo, cross-corner style, stained in its original dark finish. Solid wood with deeply carved twig detailing and four large carved maple leaf mounts. Original old glass.
A rare to find together in this condition. Ideal for a collected gallery wall, cabin, library, or nursery with history.
