A striking pair of antique tailor’s shears by J. Wiss & Sons of Newark, New Jersey, one of the most respected makers of professional cutting tools.
These heavy forged steel shears are marked “Patent Applied For,” indicating they were produced during the period when Wiss was introducing improvements to their industrial dressmaking shears in the late 19th to early 20th century.
Originally used in tailoring studios for cutting heavy wool and textiles, the shears feature beautifully shaped handles and a large pivot screw typical of early Wiss production.
Today they make a wonderful studio object or decorative piece for a sewing room, textile studio, or creative workspace.
