This is an early 20th-century wall-mounted envelope holder, made from heavy cast iron with spring steel coils designed to securely grip and organize mail, correspondence, or paper ephemera.
Originally used in offices, shops, hotels, or institutional settings, the spring mechanism allowed envelopes to be slipped in and held upright while remaining easy to access. The piece retains its original green-painted surface with richly aged patina, wear consistent with age, and a wonderfully sculptural industrial form.
Today, it works beautifully as:
- a mail or envelope organizer
- a bill or paperwork holder
- a shop counter display piece
- a wall-mounted paper or card rack
The exposed springs and scalloped cast-iron base give it strong industrial–utilitarian appeal, perfect for vintage interiors and modern spaces alike.
