This is a very early primitive wringer manufactured in Canada by Dowswell, Lees and Co of Hamilton, Ontario. The first record of this company advertising its products was in a directory in 1896. In 1910, there was a name change so this piece is pre-1910.
The wringers would be clamped onto wooden or galvanized steel tubs. The instructions printed are still very legible and the handles and clamps all turn. The rollers are in great condition - not dried out and cracked. Great piece to add to farmhouse decor or a laundry room. This piece would blend nicely with any primitive, rustic, industrial or cottage decor.
Weight: 8kg
Measures: 27-1/2”w (including Crank Handle) x 16”h x 6-8-1/2”d (Depending on whether you pull out the back clamps).
